Mythology Wax Museum Project

As a culminating project for our oral tradition unit, students created written pieces as well as prepared to become "wax figures" in our wax museum.  Students chose figures to research and become for one day.  They had to dress the part, incorporate props significant to their characters, and speak in character to visitors moving through the museum.

This is a sample calendar given with due date reminders.

Here is the rubric given with expectations of both written and presentation components.

At SEBMS communication with parents was vital. Here is the letter sent home with project details.

This is one of the components of the project.  Students had to create action figures based on their chosen characters. This allowed for creativity while  I was able to assess understanding of characterization.

Students made connections to real life and were able to, once again, use creativity to complete a job application as their characters.

They also creates resumes as their characters.

In addition, students created poems about their characters, fictitious Facebook profiles for them, re-wrote a myth involving their figure (after all, Icarus gets a bad name as a juvenile delinquent who doesn't respect his dad... what gives?  He has a side of the story to tell too!), autobiographies of characters, as well as both expository and persuasive writing prompts.

Here is a student created I Am poem based on her Egyptian goddess, Anat.
